Abstract :
Power system interlocking conditions and switching sequences can either be formulated as a large and specific set of logical equations handling actual states of switchgear, or in form of a small set of generic procedures applied to the power system topology. The latter concept does not cover the necessity to include operational aspects which cannot be derived from the power system topology. On the other hand, operational instructions as well as topological conditions can be transparently and flexibly combined in form of expert system rules. The structure of such an expert system and its practical application to a power system training simulator is reported
