Abstract :
This paper proposes an improved version of the architecture which we have proposed earlier for photonic packet switch. This is a wavelength routed switch in nature. In this switch once the wavelength of the incoming packet is tuned appropriately it will either be directly transmitted to the output fiber or will be placed in the buffer, and leave the loop buffer after required amount of delay. The main advantage of this architecture is that no controlling is required inside the buffer. In this paper two modifications are suggested to improve switch performance. The first modification reduces the physical loss of the switch, and the second modification reduces the cost of the switch. These modifications are detailed in the paper, and advantages due to these modifications also discussed in the paper.
