Abstract :
This paper presents a practical method of solving the power system unit commitment problem by using a genetic algorithm and the Lagrangian relaxation method, making use of the advantages of both. Moreover, the introduction of heuristics simplifies genetic string manipulations which improve computational efficiency. Numerical results have shown that the method is effective in solving the practical unit commitment problem
