  • Abstract
To overcome the challenges of multi-frequency applications a dual band microstrip patch antenna mounted over a FR4 substrate is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna design is simulated on electromagnetic (EM) simulation software using FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.54 and thickness of 1.6 mm. The antenna has a compact structure with total size of 58×65 mm2. The proposed antenna resonates at 6.07 GHz and 9.15 GHz giving dual band operation which can be used for satellite communication and radio navigation applications respectively at low power. The return loss of antenna is lower than -10 dB and easy to manufacture. The antenna consists of a ground plane of same size as that of substrate, a rectangular patch with extended dimensions, a quarter wave transformer and a microstrip feeding line. The design is simple, compact and easily integrable with microwave circuitry.
