Abstract
Improved crossed-slot element performance accomplished in the framework of the development of a mechanically steered phased array for MSAT-X (mobile satellite experimentation) applications is reported. The improvement of frequency bandwidth and radiation efficiency of the crossed-slot element and its design procedures is emphasized. Element performance improvement was accomplished by increasing the element frequency bandwidth with the flared crossed slot and by minimizing impedance mismatch between the element feed circuit and element radiation impedance. It is concluded that, with this new element, the low elevation angle gain coverage required for the MSAT-X application will be achieved.<>
