Abstract
The FBI is committed to utilizing biometrics and identity management systems wherever it can in order to fulfill its mission. To that end, it has initiated a "biometrics center of excellence" (BCOE) as a means of coordinating the research, development and application of biometric systems and services across the organization and across the United States Government (USG). This paper will describe the major thrusts of the BCOE concept so that researchers will have a better understanding of the government\´s planning and future needs.
