  • Abstract
    A wide frequency coverage signal generator featuring low phase noise is developed, based upon an extremely low noise 125 MHz reference source. The generator is aimed at providing a five point frequency signal (125 MHz, 500 MHz, 1 GHz, 10 GHz as well as 30 GHz) within microwave and millimeter wave bands. A frequency multiplier chain has been carefully designed to guarantee the pre-assigned low noise specification. Low noise Schottky diodes are employed to build the doublers in which high performance doubling is set in a bridge configuration. The phase noises at offset frequency of 100 kHz measured by an HP3047A reach -175,-161,-153, -131 and -121dBc/Hz at the above mentioned five point frequencies, respectively.
