Abstract
Enterprise information systems can be very complex since they provide interoperability for geographically distributed facilities and other business units with distinct business functions and mutual dependencies. Building a system of that complexity is not just a programming effort but almost a multidisciplinary approach to software engineering process. The OMG´s model driven architecture (MDA) is one such approach. It defines the approach to IT system specification that separates the specification of the system functionality from the specification of the implementation of that functionality on a specific technology platform. In this paper, we describe the process of building a healthcare enterprise information system using MDA approach on Java 2 enterprise edition (J2EE) platform.
