Abstract :
Xianlin reservoir is planned to build for Hangzhou city to ensure the safe water supply in case of pollution accident happens in Qiantang River. Due to the limited area of basin, the runoff from the river basin is enough to fill the reservoir. Therefore, it is required to transfer water from Qiantang River. However, the water quality of Qiantang River is worse than the requirements for drinking water supply, i.e. the standard of Grade III. The water quality is predicted in this paper. It is found that it is important to keep the water level in the reservoir at a relative high level. If no engineering measures will be taken prior to water diversion, the initial water storage in the reservoir should larger than 2 million m3; if engineering measures are taken first, the initial water storage can be as low as 1 million m3; The simulated result will provide the theoretical support for the reservoir management. Therefore this study is of practical interest.
