Abstract
Introducing Dynamic Thermal Line Rating (DTLR) algorithms into existing power systems protection and control allows for better utilization of already existing overhead transmission lines. DTLR application creates a possibility of increasing currents flowing through line conductors (over their normal values) and following on from this also increasing the power flow. From the power system protection viewpoint - using DTLR creates a new way of protection devices operation and coordination. The paper presents results of investigations carried over the possibility of current and power flow increase for 20kV AFL 6 240 and 110kV AFL 8 525 distribution/transmission lines. Obtained data was collated in tables and presented in figures showing where and how additional profits can be obtained without incurring additional costs coming from line modernization.
