Abstract :
Recent expansion in the semiconductor fabrication industry has created a large demand for technicians. Thus, learning institutions and companies are expected to design suitable technical and development program to meet this need. Aware of such needs, SilTerra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. is taking positive measures by developing programs to train manufacturing technicians to be multi-skills technicians. Twelve qualified technicians from three identified modules were selected to undergo several on-the-job training for a period of three to six months, using in-house training system. Certification process requires mentors (engineers) to baby-sit the mentees (technicians) and show them how to perform the jobs. The status of the certification was monitored by HRD. The program was successful as it provides a win-win situation for the technicians and the company. The technician obtains new skills and knowledge and increment in their salary, while the company gets to retain multi-skills workforce. On the other hand, mentors are going to receive rewards from the company. Thus, this project help to reduce hiring costs and improve quality and quantity of the product.
