Abstract
Because of increasing needs of Multi-purpose vehicle, there has been a noticeable increase in sales volume of 4 wheel drive (4WD) vehicle such as SUV. Most 4WD vehicles are equipped with a coupling device which transfers driving power to rear drive shaft. In some severe operating condition, wet clutches in a coupling generate enormous heat by friction and cause sharp temperature increase. Excessive heat can cause thermal damage on clutch surface. Therefore method for prediction of clutch temperature is required to avoid thermal damage. This study suggests a method for prediction of clutch temperature and a full car dynamic model which can simulate severe operating conditions of 4WD vehicle.
