Abstract
Handwritten characters are treated not only as image patterns but also as movement patterns. A set of 8 trajectories is defined. They are arranged such that any one that is written is correct or is probably a mistake for its next neighbour. The interpretation of written characters as trajectories is useful in noise elimination. For online writing, a nonlocal interpretation of elements of the trajectory must be made
