Abstract :
A new method for indexing the codewords of a lattice based vector quantizer (LBVQ) is presented. With this method, a codebook with a large number of lattice points can be selected. As a result, the quality of the compressed image can be very high. For some images, our methods shows up to a 1.5 dB improvement in comparison with JPEG. This method is suitable for applications with moderate to high vector dimensions
