Abstract
The Bio-Engineering Research Centre at the University of Ulster, created in January 1986, has now become established as a major research centre for the whole of Northern Ireland. Close links have developed with a number of local hospitals to support research and development related to clinical needs. The Centre has now grown to encompass seven major areas of expertise and supports a growing number of MPhil and DPhil research programmes. Funding for the Centre comes primarily from external sources such as industrial research contracts, government organizations, and medical research charities
