Abstract :
This paper examines the pros and cons of voltage-mode multiplexers for gigabit per second serial links and exploits the advantages of multiplexing in the current domain. It proposes a new differential CMOS current-mode multiplexer where a high multiplexing speed is achieved by multiplexing at low-impedance nodes. A 8-to-1 multiplexer using the proposed technique has been implemented in a TSMC 0.18 μm CMOS technology and analyzed using Spectre from Cadence Design Systems with BSIM 3.3V device models. Simulation results are presented.
