Abstract :
ITEM (imaginary time expectation maximization), a new algorithm for the solution of expectation maximization (EM) problems based on the QM (quantum mechanical) energy minimization via imaginary time (IT) evolution is presented. Due to its generality, ITEM is applicable to various image reconstruction problems like CT, PET, SPECT and Compton cameras. The choice of the optimal ITEM hamiltonian is discussed and numerical results are presented for the Compton camera.
