  • Abstract
Ni-Cd cells utilizing fibrous substrate (FNC) are increasingly finding new applications. The data presented demonstrate the wide range of characteristics and potential applications of the FNC technology. Economical, high energy density, large flooded cells employing high capacity thick plates of 65 Ah each have been developed. Ultra high-power cells have been built with both flooded and sealed designs. These cells deliver peak power of 50 C at current densities exceeding 500 mA/cm2. New, fast changing maintenance-free prismatic sealed cells have been developed. Sealed cells are now available in the capacity range of 7 to 68 Ah. Performance data of several specially designed plates and of the new cells are presented
