Abstract
Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) scientists and engineers need a methodology and an environment to conduct structured research in their Core Technical Competencies. The combination of sound systems engineering practices facilitated by web-based collaborative tools (workflow and process modeling; revision control; requirements management; and integrated modeling, simulation and analysis) provide such a capability. This paper describes a structured systems engineering process that is being tailored to meet the unique demands of research conducted at AFRL and leverages proven commercial software and service-oriented architecture approaches.
