Abstract :
This paper investigates suitable topology management strategies for a two-hop beyond next generation mobile broadband network, in order to substantially reduce energy consumption at low traffic levels. The energy model is introduced here. Several rules are proposed which are based on both traffic load and behaviour of adjacent nodes. A balance between energy saving and required Quality of Service (QoS) is considered. The results show our topology management strategies can substantially reduce energy consumption by up to 35-70% at low traffic loads compared with a deployment without topology management.
