Abstract :
In this work we analyze the relationship between four-wave mixing (FWM) and modulational instability (MI), using numerical simulations. We consider two channels propagating through a dispersion shifted monomode fiber. Our results suggest that FWM dynamics interfere on MI process, shifting its maximum frequency gain. This relation may affect highly nonlinear fibers, which are being proposed to perform wavelength conversion in all-optical networks.
