Abstract :
In dense radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, the tag collision arbitration is an important issue for fast tag identification. In this paper, we propose a novel transmission control algorithm for RFID systems based on framed slotted ALOHA (FSA) where the number of tags is assumed unknown in advance. The considered algorithm combines the lower bound tag estimation with a new grouping strategy, and uses a collision ratio factor to control the algorithm. The proposed approach maximizes the system efficiency while keeping moderate the time for reading the tags. Simulation results show that the system efficiency using the proposed algorithm is better than using conventional FSA-based algorithms when the number of tags is large. Furthermore, the number of slots to read the tags increases linearly for increasing the number of tags.
