Abstract :
This paper presents a real-time simulation platform for a downsized 1-litre gasoline engine, using a novel, patented, electrical driven supercharger (EDS) and a conventional turbocharger. The electrically-driven supercharger operates below 3000rpm, above which the turbocharger is running. The simulation platform includes an engine model, an EDS system with its hardware interface, and a control module that is used to operate the EDS depending on the engine operating conditions. This paper describes the test rig (including the EDS system) and its interface with the real-time simulation hardware (Hardware in the Loop, HiL) as well as the EDS control strategy. Results obtained from the real-time simulations are also presented, which verify the effectiveness of the EDS system.
