Abstract :
The present paper is concerned with stabilization of a power system with WPGS (wind power generation system) by active power control of a number of micro SMES units. The sample power system for simulation includes three hydro power stations including two pumped storage stations, two wind power generation stations and long transmission lines. Wind velocity variations are assumed, and a performance index is defined with the oscillations of synchronous generators taken into account. In order to obtain the optimal allocation of micro SMES units of predetermined number, genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted based on the defined performance index, and the results are compared with that obtained by Tabu search (TS).
