  • Abstract
The development of two inexpensive cockpit simulators for evaluating advanced control/display devices and concepts is discussed. One cockpit simulator is tailored for evaluation of prototype control/display hardware including light-emitting diode displays, liquid crystal display, 3D stereoscopic displays, and head tracking devices. The second cockpit simulator described utilizes large area reconfigurable CRT (cathode ray tube) displays. This reconfigurable cockpit was first used to conduct evaluations of control/display concepts for the in-house portion of Wright Lab´s ICAAS (Integrated Controls and Avionics for Air Superiority) program. The discussion of both cockpits includes hardware composition, simulation capabilities, and evaluations conducted in each cockpit
