Abstract :
In this paper third generation forward-error-correction (FEC) schemes based on Projective Geometry (PG) and block-circulant Low Density Parity Check Codes (LDPC) are compared with the first and second generation FEC schemes. The low complexity of both encoder and decoder and better bit error rate (BER) performance makes LDPC codes an excellent choice for optical communication systems/networks.
