Abstract
A model for studying the effect of T 1 and T 2 variations during image acquisition for a spin-echo pulse sequence is described. The method is based on the understanding that the free induction decay (FID) measurements in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are samples of the 2-D Fourier space along k → trajectories, determined by the gradient fields. Using experimental T 1 and T 2 data for a contrast agent in rat livers and liver tumors, the effect of temporal variations of T 1 and T 2 on the final image contrast is illustrated for standard spin-echo imaging pulse sequences
