Abstract :
The paper presents a formalism, based on the methodology of Q-analysis, to study the internal structure of evolving populations of Gtypes. We propose a measure of the distance between Gtypes of a population that allows to judge the conditions in which diversity will expand or contract in that population. Our results are not confined to biology but may be applied to abstract evolutionary systems and genetic operators may be applied to arbitrary sets of variable cardinal
