Abstract :
Extensively metalized polypropylene films are used in high voltage and low voltage capacitors. The reliability of the capacitors are tested as per standard test procedures. The capacitance and partial discharges are the important parameters to estimate the life of the capacitors. Failures in capacitors can be due to transient over voltages and partial discharges. An attempt has been made to study the effect of impulse voltages with different magnitudes and repetition rates on the characteristics of MPPF capacitors. An alternate method of ageing using impulse voltages on capacitors is proposed.
