Abstract :
The performance of the FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) network with synchronous traffic is analyzed. Two types of synchronous traffic are considered: voice traffic and video traffic. A finite buffer is assumed at each station to store arriving packets. In the analysis, voice traffic is modeled as an interrupted Poisson process, and video traffic is modeled as a discrete-state continuous-time Markov process. Through the approximate analysis, the average queue length, the average waiting time and the packet loss rate are derived. Simulation results are also shown in order to examine the accuracy of the approximation
