Abstract :
An analysis of the performance of low- and high-speed packet switch data over satellite channels is presented. Three link-level protocols, restart after error detection, high-level data link control with selective reject, and continuous transmission protocol are analyzed over satellite channels at speeds up to 1.544 Mb/s. The results of this analysis lead to the system specification requirements for the satellite business system packet data network and SNA architecture over satellite links. The performance measure throughput is calculated for different bit error rates, channel capacities, satellite hops, channel utilizations, and packet sizes. The sensitivity of throughput to these parameters is addressed, and results are presented in various graphs and tables
