Abstract
The design and calculated performance of an electric automobile power plant using a flywheel as the energy storage device and an on-board internal combustion engine to increase the travel range is described. The argument is presented that the use of such vehicles can significantly decrease the dependence of automotive transportation on petroleum and with increased availability of charging facilities can make automotive transportation entirely independent of petroleum supply.
