Abstract
Photonic power harnesses the power of light to offer a new means of power delivery over non-conductive fiber. It is well suited for delivering power in all-optical networks by utilizing available fiber bundles for driving low power switches or actuators while assuring immunity to lightning, sparking, and cross talk effects. It could be a means of assuring path diversity in upstream data delivery in PON architectures, and for providing battery backup power in case of power outages.
