Abstract :
Switched reluctance motors are well suited to a variety of variable-speed applications. However switched reluctance motors and converters need to be designed together as a system, unlike induction motors for example where a standard drive and converter will work well when interconnected. In recent years a variety of converter and winding configurations have been proposed, and the selection of the appropriate converter and motor design is far from straightforward. DC bias hybrid winding designs consisting of short and fully-pitched windings together have been proposed, with some claimed advantages, but there is no independent published analysis of such schemes. This paper addresses this issue.
