Abstract
Qinghai-Tibet railway passes through the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau. This area has its particular geography circumstance and special climate, which has huge influence on design and realization of power supply system of Qinghai-Tibet railway. It is important to realize the methods of lightning protection and establish the grounding systems in Qinghai-Tibetan plateau. In this paper, the unique thunderstorm regular pattern based on high elevation and local climate is introduced. The thunderstorm condition and characteristics of thunder current are analyzed. Some methods about lightning protection in Qinghai-Tibetan plateau are also recommended. The analytic results provide some helpful references to electrical design and engineering of the Qinghai-Tibet railway.
