Abstract
Theoretical and experimental studies of untilted edge slots excited by tilted wires are presented. The basic unit in an array of such sidewall slots consists of a single nonwraparound slot plus two internal straddling wires. Both theory and experiment predict the coupling of energy from the waveguide into a half-space. Furthermore, the passage of the phase of the reflection coefficient through 180 degrees indicates that the slot/strips combination exhibits a resonant behavior and acts like a shunt element that can be detuned to compensate for mutual coupling. This unit appears to be an attractive new candidate for use in arrays where large-angle H-plane scanning is desired.<>
