Abstract :
The far-field radiation patterns of a 2D periodic leaky-wave antenna are investigated. The antenna consists of a horizontal infinitesimal (source) dipole at (x/sub 0/, y/sub 0/, z/sub 0/) inside a grounded substrate with a planar periodic metal patch array on top of the substrate. An alternative configuration would use a top ground plane with a periodic array of slots. The radiation characteristics of both configurations are discussed, although the discussion and results are limited to only the periodic patch structure.
