Abstract :
A powerful system for the coding of colour pictures using the potential method is described. Decomposition of the chrominance vector is performed to match the colour features. Helmholtz´s theorem is shown to be suitable for this purpose, and the vector field is decomposed into lamellar and vector components. In addition, a novel edge-detection scheme is proposed which uses flow-potential concepts.<>
