Abstract :
Diagnostic experiences on cables in the field have resulted into the development of a systematic approach for condition assessment of HV power cables. Based on the assumption that the long term performance of HV cable networks can have more than one effective degradation process potentially leading to failure, the single use of partial discharge (PD) as a messenger for an upcoming failure is too restricted and should be extended to include other measurements. Because of the high complexity of cable systems in HV networks, e.g. oil-filled, gas-pressurized cable systems dedicated diagnostic approaches have been investigated and implemented successfully in the last five years.
