Abstract :
This paper presents a simple nonlinear magnetic analysis for interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM). The equivalent magnetic circuit of the motor used in the analysis is composed of the saturable permeance that incorporates the effects of core saturations. As a result, the proposed analysis is capable of calculating the flux distributions and torque characteristics in the presence of magnetic saturation. Validity of the proposed analysis is confirmed by comparing the proposed-method calculation results with finite element analysis and experiments for two kinds of IPMSM. Furthermore, the proposed analysis-based optimum design of IPMSM is also presented, which realizes the minimization of the motor volume while satisfying the torque requirements for the target applications.
