Abstract
The dielectric resonator (DR) antenna has received increasing attention owing to its merits of small size, lightweight, and temperature stability. Since DR antennas can be easily integrated with microwave circuits, they have found many applications in modern personal communications. Rigorous approaches for solving the resonant problems of an isolated DR antenna and a DR antenna on a ground plane have been reported. We present the integration equation analysis to investigate the resonant frequency and radiation Q factor of a rectangular DR antenna on a grounded substrate. The accurate and efficient volume integration formulation is described. The effects of the grounded substrate on the resonance of the TE/sup z//sub 111/, mode of the DR antenna are discussed.
