Abstract :
The paper presents the evolution of conventional rotary induction motors into advanced rotary induction motors and then into advanced linear induction motors. Details are presented on the converters used. The converters used are both conventional low voltage two level PWM inverters and high power three level neutral point clamped converters, which use press pack insulated gate bipolar transistors.
