Abstract :
Block transform is widely used in image coding. In the presence of subband noise, the perfect reconstruction filter bank may not be the optimal solution. The method of reconstructing image with MSE based optimal filter banks has been studied and can get high PSNR, but it cannot obtain good visual quality. In this paper, we propose a method to design the optimal synthesis filter bank based on SSIM, which is a better measure than MSE in image processing. The method is applied in the reconstruction of DCT coding systems. Compared with MSE based method and IDCT, the proposed design can achieve better structure feature while maintaining satisfactory ability of noise reduction. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our method.
