Abstract
An extensive investigation involving many different antenna parameters on handset antenna arrays is described. The antenna parameters under study include types of antenna arrays, type of antenna elements, mutual coupling, antenna spacing and number of receive antennas. These investigations provide invaluable insight into the feasibility of introducing compact antenna arrays on the mobile terminal. Results show that the application of compact antenna arrays is practical in both indoor and outdoor environments except in the strong street canyon effect scenario.
