Abstract :
This paper describes the HP9000 Series 700 Model 712, a highly integrated workstation developed by the Hewlett-Packard Company. Three VLSI chips were developed for this system: a processor, a graphics chip, and an I/O chip. These chips where developed as a set, which allowed the cost and performance to be optimized. An overview of the system is given and some details on how the chips interact. The goal of the program was to greatly reduce cost while maintaining high performance.<>
