  • Abstract
This paper deals with the analysis of power electronics converter in the presence of lossy load and lossy inductor using fractional-order (FO) models. Here the analysis of single phase converter using FO model is carried out. A detailed theory about the measurement procedure has been developed which uses the conventional integer-order (IO) models of these elements. However, this theory talks nothing about the measurement of the elements with frequency dependent losses, like an inductor with core loss or a capacitor with dielectric loss. One of the main reasons for this is the IO model of these elements, which is incapable for considering these frequency dependent losses. If one wishes to incorporate these losses in the IO models, the resulting representation is very unsatisfactory and bulky making the analysis tedious. As a result, the theory of classical converters rarely accommodate the load with lossy elements. But in reality, all the elements produce more or less inherent losses. Thus, the single phase half wave converter, in their present format, are unable to measure such losses. FO models of inductor and capacitor considers the frequency dependent losses as claimed in literature. This paper, probably for the first time, establishes the theory of single phase fully controlled converter with these lossy load using the FO models. A general procedure to measure an inductance with core loss is given along with the derivation of necessary expressions. It has been observed that the use of FO model of a lossy element greatly aids in the analysis of the converter.
