Abstract :
The authors present a new deterministic protocol for the integration of voice and data on a LAN (local area network) with a bus topology. This protocol implements the movable boundary strategy and is modeled analytically according to this scheme. This model is then used for a performance evaluation. After a brief description of the deterministic media access method for a voice and data stations, an analytical model based on a queuing analysis is described for this system. This model is then used for a system performance evaluation, showing the voice call´s blocking probability and the data message´s wait time and queue length for different system configurations. The system performance was found to depend considerably on the channel assignment
