Abstract :
In this work, we perform three-dimensional finite element simulations of a solid electrically conducting plate with a pre-defined material defects. This structure is evaluated by an induction coil. The presence of inhomogeneities in the structure is inspected by non-destructive way with use of eddy current testing method where the perturbed electromagnetic field caused by the defect is detected. This study is motivated by the novel eddy current testing technique which is based on sensing of all the three components of the perturbed field. In particular, we performed parametric study to quantify the effect of various parameters - depth and electrical conductivity of the defect. The analyses provide reference results to understand the effectiveness, feasibility and capability of this approach.
