Abstract
The influence of arterial tapering on blood motion is evaluated. This was achieved by means of a nonlinear mathematical model that allows local study of the motion of fluid in a tapered and elastic tube. The results make it clear that the anatomic tapering of arteries and pulsatile changes in diameter highly influence blood motion. A nonlinear model for studying arterial blood motion is presented. It is a mathematical formulation including an original expression of axial and radial velocity profiles. Results confirm the need to take the anatomical tapering of vessels into account for correct analysis of blood motion. This need is satisfied by retaining nonlinear terms (i.e. convective accelerations) in the Navier-Stokes equations
