Abstract :
ATM network technology has become the primary candidate for all future wide area and local area networks. This was not true two or three years ago, but based on ATM´s ability to support intermixed voice, video and data over an extremely wide range of bandwidths (1.5 Mbps to 100 Gbps) and the rapid progress with ATM standards, ATM has become the only real option for most future networks. This overview presents the trends in the wide area network market as well as in local area networks.<>
